GENERAL PURPOSE Performs a variety of routine work in the public library environment and provides services to library patrons and staff.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the supervision of the Reference Librarian.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for shelving returned library materials in the adult collection.
Responsible for maintaining order in the adult bookshelves by performing shelf reading as assigned by Reference Librarian or other supervisory staff.
Maintains library public areas in a clean and orderly fashion by sustaining orderly shelves and performing light cleaning and/or organizing tasks.
Answers telephone calls and provides information or otherwise assists or refers patrons as appropriate.
Provides reader's advisory, reference, and other patron assistance services.
Works proficiently with basic computer software.
Assists patrons with computer use and troubleshoots basic computer and office equipment problems.
Assists patrons with printing from mobile devices.
Participates in staff meetings to discuss and resolve problems, contribute ideas for improvement, and keep updated on library plans and activities.
Assists with opening and closing duties.
Attends continuing education classes and/or webinars that are relevant for the position.
Maintains the holds shelf, including loading and unloading daily courier containers.
Enforces all library policies established by the Lake Wales Library Board and the City of Lake Wales including patron behavior and rules.
Must be able to collect and properly handle money, and compute fees owed.
Knowledge of Polk County Library Cooperative member network, services and staff is important.
Knowledge of Lake Wales community highly valued, including, but not limited to addresses, providing directions, community events, organizations and educational systems.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES Assists other Reference staff in the performance of their duties as required.
This position is regularly scheduled on Saturday.
Other duties as required.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and
Experience:
(A) High school diploma or GED Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A) Strong knowledge of alphabetical organization and the decimal system as it applies to library organization; knowledge of computers in a Windows environment; ability to navigate the Internet for reference service to customers (B) Skilled in the operation of tools and equipment including photocopier, scanner, fax machine.
(C) Ability to orally communicate effectively; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, employees, supervisors, and the general public.
(D) Ability to collect cash payments, make change correctly and secure cash payments.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Valid Florida driver's license or other official government identification.
Required to complete a minimum of 15 CEUs annually in library services, customer service or related fields.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
